Central Dairy Cooperative Association Limited Nepal (CDCAN), formerly called CMPCU, has been established following the enactment of the Cooperative Act, 1992 as a central body of all the milk and dairy producers cooperatives established throughout the country.
Being a Central Dairy Cooperative Association Limited Nepal (CDCAN) represents 1,872 primary milk producers cooperatives at local level and 36 district milk producers cooperative unions at district level from around 64 districts in the country. In accordance with one household one member basis, CDCAN covers more than 7 lakhs households directly and other 5 to 10 percent of that figure are incorporated indirectly in the association with an estimated 10 percent annual growth rate.
The organization aims to support member cooperatives in establishing milk and dairy product industries while promoting a strong sense of cooperation among members. It provides various services and technical support to member cooperatives, including assistance in raising improved crossbreed and high-quality livestock and maintaining their health. The organization also ensures access to effective veterinary services, launches saving and credit programs, conducts insurance programs, and provides marketing assistance. In addition, it operates dealership businesses to supply necessary livestock and dairy-related inputs to cooperatives. Furthermore, the organization offers education and training services in several important areas such as quality production of milk and dairy products, animal health, cooperative organization and management, accounting, dairy business, and marketing. It supports member cooperatives by analyzing their action plans and helping improve their performance. The organization also establishes links with fodder industries to manage production and ensure proper distribution of fodder. Acting as a central representative of member cooperatives, it builds and maintains business relationships with national and international institutions to strengthen the dairy sector and create better opportunities for its members.
